Tiny drones powered by sound

EPFL engineers have designed acoustic cavities that convert sound waves into thrust, enabling small robots and ultralight aerial vehicles without onboard actuators or electronics. They built miniature boats and microfliers using 3D printing, demonstrating sound-driven propulsion at both audible and ultrasonic frequencies. This research shows a new method for wireless actuation in robotics.

swiss-ai/nasa (dataset)

The dataset is a public-domain subset of the NASA Image and Video Library, filtered and captioned with a Qwen vision-language model. It contains 36,997 images covering spaceflight, astronomy, planetary science, Earth observation and aeronautics from NASA centers such as JPL, KSC, MSFC, JSC and GSFC. The images were sourced directly from NASA's public API and prepared by the Swiss AI Initiative vision team.

AI model maps tumor tissue to improve cancer care

EPFL researchers have created VirTues, a foundation model that learns from spatial proteomics data across 31 clinical cohorts, 12,000 images, and 5,000 patients. The model uses a new Transformer architecture to integrate diverse protein panels and can be applied to multiple analyses, from cell‑level mapping to patient outcome prediction. VirTues has been published in Nature and is designed to be flexible, allowing new tissue samples to be compared within the same framework.
