BitVault, a Lugano-based startup, has launched its Bitcoin self‑custody app globally, already serving a few hundred paying users and raising CHF 500,000 from a Swiss family office and a Canadian angel investor. The app uses multi‑signature, hardware‑linked keys, and configurable delays to secure Bitcoin while keeping private keys in users’ control, and its code is open source. The company plans a $1.5 million seed round in 2027 and aims to grow through B2B2C partnerships with wallets, exchanges, and family offices.

Over 1,100 of Switzerland’s small glaciers have disappeared since the early 1970s, and the remaining glaciers have lost 40% of their volume since 2000, shrinking from 75 km³ to 45 km³ by 2025. The loss of glacier melt threatens the country’s hydropower supply, which relies on steady runoff, and accelerates sedimentation in reservoirs, reducing their capacity. Concurrently, glacier retreat is altering microbial ecosystems, prompting initiatives to preserve the unique microbiome before it disappears.

ETH Zurich researchers examined how brain activity synchronises between younger and older adults during joint drawing over six weeks. They found that while same-age pairs showed increasing synchrony, cross-generational pairs experienced a decline, suggesting that mutual prediction rather than shared cognition drives synchrony. The study also identified stable two-brain states and highlighted differences in internal brain synchronisation between participants.
