Vattenfall and terralayr bring industry's first virtual battery toll into full operation

Vattenfall now operates the full 55 MW of its seven‑year tolling contract, made possible by terralayr’s LAYR platform that aggregates eight decentralized large‑scale storage systems into a single, dispatchable virtual battery. The staged ramp‑up began in January 2026, reaching full capacity in August 2026, and represents the first operational multi‑asset capacity toll for battery storage in Europe. The platform distributes dispatch commands across the portfolio, mitigating single‑asset risks and enabling utilities to procure flexibility without direct storage investment.
